Kitchener-Waterloo’s Office Compost Program
Businesses in the Waterloo Region face a problem that most employees don't think about: unlike homes, offices don't have access to the Region's residential green bin collection program. That means every coffee ground, lunch scrap, and paper napkin from your office ends up in a garbage bag — headed straight for the landfill, where organic waste generates methane and contributes to climate change.
The Office Compost Program, operated by Kitchener Clean, changes that. We are proud to be Waterloo Region's first and only dedicated office food waste pickup service, helping businesses in Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge, and surrounding communities divert organic waste from landfill and build a measurable sustainability record.
Since launching in 2018, we have diverted over 28,000 lbs of organic waste — the equivalent of taking 14 cars off the road. Will your office join the movement?

Get Your Green Bins
Sign up and we'll help you choose the right number of bins for your office. We consider the size of your space, the number of eating areas, and your team's composting habits. Setup is simple and fast.

Start Composting
Your employees compost food scraps, coffee grounds, tea bags, paper towels, and other approved materials directly from their desks, kitchens, and washrooms — just like they would at home. We provide guidance to make it easy.

Our Impact on Waterloo Region
Ontario businesses send an estimated 6.7 million tons of waste to landfills every year. A significant portion of that is organic waste — food scraps and compostable materials that could be diverted, processed, and returned to the earth as compost.
The Office Compost Program is Waterloo Region's answer to that challenge. Here's what our participating offices have achieved together:

✓ Waste processed through three streams: regional composting facility in Guelph, local neighbourhood garden compost, and Kitchener Clean's own Worm Farm
